DEPARTMENT
Neurology is a developing specialty within Alfred Health, and recent investment has produced significant growth in this area, particularly with regard to Stroke research and clinical trials. Neurology at Alfred Health consists of inpatient units and a range of specialised outpatient clinics. The Role The stroke research nurse role is an opportunity to join a dynamic team of stroke clinicians focussed on growing and developing The Alfred stroke service. The stroke research nurse will work predominantly with both the senior stroke research nurse, the stroke clinical fellow, as well as the acute care stroke and rehabilitation consultants to develop a portfolio of stroke research studies across Alfred Health. The primary responsibility of the Stroke Research Nurse is to co-ordinate and facilitate various clinical stroke research trials being conducted by the Alfred stroke team. The Research Nurse will do this by ensuring optimal patient assessment, recruitment and retention as well as excellent data collection and management in accordance with Good Clinical Research Practice Standards and adherence to clinical trial protocols. Clear and effective communication with clincians, clinical support services, ethics and study sponsors will be key to success. The Stroke Research Nurse is responsible for the recruitment, scheduling, assessment and monitoring of participants enrolled in international and national sponsored clinical trials, at the same time using a range of administration, research, and educational skills to ensure best practice in the management of these trials. The stroke research nurse will also oversee the management of funding for each study. The Stroke Research Nurse will participate in the daily workings of the Alfred Stroke Program where appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Nursing And Midwifery Board of Australia
- Familiarity with the clinical aspects of stroke.
- Experience or qualifications in Neuroscience, ICU or Emergency Nursing.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
- Strong and proven time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to practice nursing as part of the multi-disciplinary health care team
- Have good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook
- Attention to details
Desirable
- Experience in coordinating clinical research trials within Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
- Postgraduate qualification in health and/or management or working towards same
